Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday accepted Navjot Singh Sidhu´s resignation and forwarded the same to state governor VP Singh Badnore.
An official spokesperson of the chief minister´s office confirmed the development.
After Sidhu formally sent his resignation to Amarinder on Monday at the latter´s Chandigarh residence, there had been suspense over its acceptance.
Sidhu, who has been at loggerheads with Amarinder Singh, was stripped off key portfolios in the Punjab cabinet reshuffle on June 6. Singh had divested Sidhu of the Local Government & Tourism and Cultural Affairs departments and allotted him the Power and New and Renewable Energy portfolio.
Over a month after he was stripped of the key portfolios, Sidhu had not taken charge of his new assignment, as a stalemate with the chief minister had continued. On Sunday, Sidhu had tweeted his resignation letter from the state cabinet which he had sent to Rahul Gandhi in June.
Sidhu had maintained stoic silence after he made public his resignation.
