The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the anticipatory bail granted to former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in the Saradha chit fund case. Hearing the CBI´s plea, the Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to former police commissioner Rajiv Kumar.

The Supreme Court also said that the CBI will also have to prove why interrogation in custody is necessary. Chief Justice S Bovde said that Rajiv Kumar has been absconding for a long time, but you have to explain to us why his arrest is necessary, he is a senior officer.

Significantly, the CBI had filed a petition in the Supreme Court opposing the anticipatory bail received by the former police commissioner Rajiv Kumar from the High Court. The CBI had said that Kumar had been involved in tampering of evidence. He is also accused of saving some of the leaders accused in Saradha and Rojwali chit fund cases.

Recently, the CBI team raided for the arrest of Rajiv Kumar, but he was not found. For the arrest of Kumar, the CBI had also written a letter to senior officials of West Bengal and requested to give information in this regard where Kumar is.

Kumar later took refuge in the Kolkata High Court for relief from his arrest. Hearing Kumar´s anticipatory bail plea, the High Court granted bail. Please tell that Rajiv Kumar is counted among the special officers of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
