KOLKATA :The KMC revenue Department want to turn the heat in habitual property-tax defaulters, as the KMC revenue department has come up with a ward-wise list of top property-tax defaulters. The list carrying names of 50 defaulters in the first phase,who owe the civic body Rs 2 lakh-Rs 5 lakh.
Deputy mayor Atin Ghosh, overseeing the revenue department, held a meeting with civic officials on Friday. Ghosh told KMC officials to hand the lists to the councillors so that the defaulters could be put under pressure. “We want to turn the heat on habitual defaulters and augment our revenue. We need to take help of the councillors to convince the defaulters who owe Rs 2 lakh. In some zones, considered prime residential areas, defaulters owe the KMC over Rs 5 lakh,” said a KMC revenue department official.
