Student Caught red-handed, trying to siphon off money at ATM in Salt Lake

KOLKATA :  Students and residents of Jamtara in Jharkhand, got arrested on February 1at kolkata. The accused  was caught red-handed, ostensibly trying to siphon off money by using a skimmer at a nationalized bank ATM at FD Block in Salt Lake.

His arrest led the cops onto the trail of a racket in Chennai, where two others, one of them an MBA student, were held. Based on the interrogation of Sanjay Mandal, arrested from Salt Lake, the police raided a hotel in Chennai and arrested the two, who allegedly operated in Kolkata. Both the accused were students and residents of Jamtara in Jharkhand.

Cops from the Bidhannagar cyber crime cell took Mandal into custody. Based on his interrogation, the police raided a hotel in Chennai, from where the two other gang members were arrested. The racket was run out of the hotel, police said.

“The case is still being investigated. It looks like an organized gang that has been active in the city for quite some time. We will grill them further to know about the rest of the gang members and their modus operandi,” said a senior Bidhannagar Commissionerate officer.
