KOLKATA: Under the smart campus Project IIT Kharagpur is ready to set a biometric classroom attendance system.

With increase number of students, attendance taking has become time consuming, Said an IIT Kgp teacher´s. Though the current teacher - student ratio is 1:13. 5 at IIT Kgp. In class that have more students, attendance takes up about 10-12 minutes of an hour long class.

Sample gadgets have been acquired, which will be tested on a pilot basis in the ongoing spring semester. Based on the test results, the system will be fully commissioned in the new academic year 2019-20 said Bhattacharyya.
