Education Minister requested professors not to resign

KOLKATA: Education minister Partha Chatterjee met the RBU vice-chancellor, Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhuri, on Tuesday and talked to four departmental heads and two directors who had put in their papers on Monday.

The minister requested them to withdraw their resignations for the sake of the university. He pacified other professors and departmental heads who wanted to resign on Tuesday over the university’s indifference to probe the allegations of gender and caste discrimination by a geography teacher of the university.

Chatterjee said, “This is not expected at a place, which has been named after Rabindranath Tagore. Such practices will tarnish the reputation of the institution. This should not have happened. ”
