IGNOU staff dupe students

Dhanbad : The study center of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) at PK Roy Memorial College in Dhanbad came in controversy after aspirants seeking admission leveled charges of duping the aspirants on the name of admission.

According to the information, aspirants who reached IGNOU center for inquiring about courses and admission procedure were given option deposit cash instead of demand draft issued by banks in favor of institution by one of the staff but now the centre is not accepting their claim.

“A staff sitting in the office advised to deposit cash money instead of demand draft so that application form for admission can be instantly sent to the regional center at Ranchi,” said Dayanand one of the a victim  who lost Rs 2300.

Another victim, Anil Kumar Singh  who lost Rs 10,000  told  when he came to IGNOU center located at PK Roy Memorial College was suggested to pay in cash by the office staff later  identified as Milan Singh .

“My two daughters including Ritu Kumari and Rashmi Kumar were interested in studying through distant mode of learning, that’s why I wanted to enrolled them in IGNOU study center as it is a trusted distant educational institution,” said Singh.

Adding further, the helpless father said, he is already in financial crunch as one of his daughter’s marriage is scheduled in next month.

“I faced numerous difficulties in arranging the money for daughters education, but owing to duping tendency of officials and staffs, they (daughters) couldn’t take admission in this session,” said Singh adding that he will talk to the higher officials on the issue after daughter’s wedding.

Singh alleged connivance of the top officials and outsourced employees cannot be ruled out, he said.

Prof.LB Singh  Singh, coordinator, IGNOU Study center of PK Roy College said, he already has  sacked the staff a couple of months  ago when found  him indulge in malpractice.

“Report of Milan Singh involvement in luring the aspirants seeking admission had reached me.

Later with the consent of college principal, we sacked that staff,” said Singh. He advised victims to take legal action against Milan.

On the other hand, IGNOU Regional Director, Shiv Kumar taking the matter seriously said, he had already directed the coordinator and college principal to initiate action against Milan.
