Metro Inspection Report, has to prepare emergency evacuation plans

KOLKATA : Mohammad Latief Khan, commissioner of railway safety (CRS), eastern circle, has issued a number of  directives for Metro Railway in his inspection report, such as Metro Railway will have to prepare emergency evacuation plans for all stations and display them prominently. The emergency procedure will also have to be announced over the passenger address systems to guide people to exits during accidents.

The report also seeks installation of video monitoring and surveillance systems in all coaches. Live feed from these will appear on the audio-visual display units at both the front and rear cabins, to be reviewed by the motormen for necessary action. While new rakes will have this facility, Metro Railway has sent a proposal to the Railway Board to install surveillance cameras inside existing air-conditioned coaches.

Processing has also started for fire and smoke detection systems inside trains and at stations. Once we receive sanction, the tendering process will start,” said Metro Railway CPRO Indrani Banerjee. Metro Railway has also started hotlines with the Kolkata Police headquarters and the fire department headquarters as the CRS wanted.
