KOLKATA: Metro Railway has decided to trash it and display real-time arrival of trains at platforms instead. Not just the Metro, trains across the country have been operating to a timetable for over a century. Sources said the decision was prompted by the frequent breakdown in services in recent times that have sent the schedules haywire.
Since the displays were not real-time till now, passengers used to complain when trains arrived a little late. The delay is not always due to technical glitches. At times, doors take longer to close due to the extreme passenger pressure. If this happens at five-six consecutive stations, it can delay a train by 5 minutes and throw the schedule out of gear.
Once we have real-time displays, people will no longer feel they have been misled. This doesn’t mean that we shall give up on our efforts to maintain schedules,” Metro Railway CPRO Indrani Banerjee said.
