Two landmark sari stores, cought on fire- midnight

KOLKATA : On sunday midnight south Kolkata’s landmark two sari stores Traders Assembly and Adi Dhakeshwari Bastralay, cought on fire and  74 year old building also destroyed that housed them at the Gariahat crossing.

Almost 12 hours and took 170-odd fire brigade personnel and 19 tenders to douse, ate up portions of the both stores. many residents of the building  escaped within half an hour of the first flames being spotted around 1am on Sunday.

 Social media posts,  helped alert the fire brigade, which initially sent two fire tenders from Gariahat Fire Brigade two blocks away. Later, realizing the nature of the blaze, they increased the number of tenders over the next hour.

Firemen and forensic officials believe a short circuit inside the building was possibly sparked by a fire that had probably started outside, and had spread because of the tarpaulin and goods stocked in the dalas.
