Karunamoyee Kali temple bans plastic and candles, after accident

KOLKATA : On Tuesday after a 50 - year- old woman, karuna saha suffered 70% burns after her saree caught fire from a candle while she was offering prayers at Karunamoyee Kali temple. The Temple authorities decided to prohibit the lighting of candles and incense sticks on the premises. They have also prohibited the use of plastic, which is inflammable.

The authorities said this Monday, we suddenly heard screams while we were preparing for a shradh ceremony. I saw her running in flames, screaming for help. I used a fire extinguisher to douse the fire. Even I received minor injuries in the process,” said Roychowdhury. “The incident was such that we had to take remedial steps fast. ”

Saha was subsequently shifted to the burns unit of Medical College and Hospital, where her condition is stated to be critical. “We are in continuous touch with the police. We will send a team to her residence as soon as possible,” said Roychowdhury. The Haridevpur police will investigate the case further.
