KOLKATA : Wednesday Morning six car cought on fire in a mysterious way at a park in south Dum Dum, the cops are yet to find the exact cause of the fire,Two fire engines went to the spot to douse the flames.
The car owners alleged the vehicles were deliberately set on fire by some local criminals, who wanted to take possession of the ´disputed land´. Cops have registered a case in this connection.
Locals said several cars are parked on the nearly one-bigha vacant land known as ´Purba Srimiti Mali Ground´. Besides serving as a parking space for 15 to 20 cars, the land is also used as a dumping ground by local contractors. But we never witnessed such a scene before, said a local, Pintu Shaw.
Panchu Roy, the chairman of South Dum Dum Municipality, said: As far as I know, the vacant land is used by locals on several purposes for a long time. Some even dump building materials on it. The municipal authority doesn´t own the land and never used it. We will look into the matter seriously.
