DD Mishra appointed as chairman of ISM

Dhanbad  : Dr D. D. Mishra has been appointed as new  chairman of the premier mining institution Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad. It was a coincident that a former student of ISM now possessed the top post of the Alma Mater.  

Ending the suspense over the appointment, the ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) issued  notification of appointment on March 5. The post was vacant after the former chairman Dr PK Lahiri completed his tenure on January 31.

Dr Mishra was the student of 1964 batch of ISM. Later in 1984, he was appointed as a professor in the institution.. Dr Mishra served ISM since 1984 to 2000 as the head of Fuel and Mineral engineering department.

Dr Mishra, who has close connection with Dhanbad was also appointed as the director of Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR) Dhanbad in 2000 and served the institution for four years.

Talking to our correpondent over phone, Dr Mishra said it  would be a wonderful experience to become  chairman of the institution, where I graduated as an engineer  “I have an indestructible relation with the institution, that’s why I got one more opportunity to serve,” said Dr Mishra adding that despite being upgraded as IIT,  I wants ISM to maintain its legacy in mineral industry.

Sharing the views regarding IIT tag Dr Mishra said it would be a great pleasure for us to see the institution as IIT as it proved beneficial for the institution. “Now with an IIT status, the doors will be open to collaborate with other foreign institutions that will be beneficial for the students to excel their talent globally,” said Dr Mishra.
