Severe water crisis in Katras and Baghmara area

Dhanbad : Owing to sever water crisis faced by population of about 5 lakh people residing in Katrasgarh and Baghmara area, Deputy Commissioner, Kripanand Jha held a meeting on Saturday morning, with Mineral Area Development Area (MADA), Bharat Coking coal Limited (BCCL) and MLA of the constituency, Dhullu Mahto. MADA authorities had started rationing of water since mid of March and used to supply once in three days.

Now the supply has come down to once in a week which has made people of the area upset and furious.

Water requirement for these areas was fulfilled by the Topchanchi reservoir which has now gone dry.

The situation was anticipated by the district administration in the month of February itself but they were not quick enough to act and avert the present situation.

MADA had planned to supply pit water from Dhamabandh which is not fit for drinking purpose.

A DPR for filtration unit was being prepared in the month of February to supply clean and hygienic water.

“We will switch over to pit water of Dharmabandh which would be enough to fulfill the water requirements of the area.

Filtration process of pit water has started and soon we will be able to meet the demand to some extent” said Managing Director of MADA, Ravindra Singh.

Furious MLA Dhullu while talking to media said that he is keeping an eye on every action that is being taken by administration on the crisis and warned BCCL that if the situation does not come to normal, he will not allow BCCL to be functional in the area.

DC KN Jha while talking to press said that the crisis is severe and it cannot be brought down to zero immediately but efforts are on to bring it under control.
