Monsoon arrives, to cover entire Jharkhand by Tuesday

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday announced the arrival of southwest monsoon over Jharkhand. This year, monsoon arrived in the state 10 days behind schedule.  

In its afternoon weather bulletin, IMD Ranchi said the northern limit of the southwest monsoon trough line had set in over Jamshedpur in the state´s southeastern district of East Singhbhum on Friday. Monsoon has also advanced into West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts, it said.

SD Kotal, director of IMD Ranchi said, monsoon will reach southern and central Jharkhand, including Ranchi, by Saturday. Pre-monsoon showers will gather pace in northern and northwestern parts from Saturday. The remaining part of Jharkhand will be covered by June 25, he added.  

Jamshedpur, Chaibasa and other towns in southeastern Jharkhand recorded heavy rain on Thursday evening. IMD Ranchi said Jamshedpur received 50mm rain while Chaibasa recorded 30mm rain. Ghatshila and Mohanpur received 20mm rain while Koderma received 10mm.
